Art is never finished, only abandoned. – Leonardo da Vinci
After spending more time than I’m willing to admit, I ended the recording phase of the album today. It ended not with a whimper or a growl. Not with a tear or a celebration. It ended with me pouring warm saline water through my sinuses with a neti pot and wincing as I coughed. My sinuses are a wreck, my throat hurts, my lungs are filled with gunk, and I’ve finally handed over all 12 recordings to my mixing producer, Geoff.
The cover art is ongoing, and should have some movement in the next week or two. Oh that reminds me, I should point out where we are in the process of fulfilling all those Kickstarter backers rewards!
Well, once we finish mixing in the next week or so, I will get the album mastered for digital release and vinyl. After this is done I’ll be handing off the record to get it in everyone’s hands digitally! So, before the year is out for sure. Now the vinyl is another story – after I get the masters off and order the vinyl, it will take 4-6 weeks to get my test pressings then another 8-16 weeks to get the final versions after I approve those pressings. This is all dependent on artwork finalization as well. So early 2016 we’ll see those guys showing up. I’ll also be getting the shirts and posters printed around then as well. Between now and then I’ll be tracking the 5 songs that some folks bought and sending them over. And the 3 guitars will be mailed out as well.
I learned a LOT while recording this record. A lot about how to record, but also a lot about myself. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and nervous for you to hear it. I’ve had a couple great reactions in recent days when letting people just hear the rough mixes I’ve made while recording.
